Grande Dame of British fashion, Vivienne Westwood, shared her views on the London Sunday Times about the Duchess of Cambridge’s style — particularly with Kate Middleton’s penchant for heavy black liner all around her eyes.
“I think she’s got a problem with eye makeup!” Westwood said. “The sharp line around her eyes make her look hard. Either she should be smudgy or wear none.”
Vivienne Westwood is not the first to criticise Kate’s harsh eyeliner. In a recent interview with Grazia Daily, Viktor & Rolf also commented on the same thing.
“[We’d like to see her wearing ] different makeup and hair — less eyeliner, less hair. It would bring out her natural beauty.”
As much as we adore the Duchess and admire how she’s trying to bring herself closer to the people by doing her own makeup and all, the designers do have a point there. Kate mainly plays up her eyes with heavy black kohl liner even along the inner rims, which actually can close her pretty peepers up and make them look smaller.
A light drawing of her favourite black hard pencil, smudged out alittle on her lower lash line; together with a touch of smokey shadow for a softer finish and a good coat or two of mascara to open up her eyes would still draw attention to her beautiful green eyes while looking more modern and fresh.
But Dame Vivienne didn’t just stop at the eyes, she went straight down to Kate’s jugular.
“It seems to me that her image is ’ordinary woman’. Therefore, high-street shopper,” she declares about Kate’s dressing. “And I just think she should be an extraordinary woman, wherever she gets her clothes from. It doesn’t mean you are elitist, it means you are an exceptional woman.”
